Little people know that; the leader of the French Expedition to Egypt was not French!!!!!!!!
“Napoleon de Bonaparte” is the original name of the commander of this expedition to Egypt, he was born on Corsica island to parents who are much closer to Italy than to France, even during his childhood he had a problem with his classmate because of his accent which was not familiar with them.
But he was stubborn enough to underestimate this problem and get more familiar with his colleagues in his study, putting his eyes just on his main goal, being a great man in the history of mankind.
Also, he was too short to be a soldier in the army in the artillery section of the military, but his consistency in getting his goal enabled him to be a soldier in the French military and even in this section.
Napoleon was born in 1769 and the french revolution was in 1789, so he witnessed this revolution when he was 20 years old, and this occasion helped him to use this chance as best as possible to try to play the role of new blood in the French army believing in french revolution’s principles to get achieve his ambition and glory.
He realized so early that the military is the shortest way to power, he had so much awareness about it, showed a great welcome about the French expedition and believed its principles and rules even though he got a relationship with a widow lady of great french leaders much older than him to keep and prove his position to the power.
So during the French expedition to Egypt; Napoleon was less than 29 years old !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, after the analysis inputs of the situation, the government of France was trying their best to accomplish all needs and requirements of this expedition to keep Napoleon far away from France, the filled his danger on their position from his ambition.
No one had risen to power faster than napoleon bonaparte, through his hard-working, consistency and keeping his eyes on his goals, and generally, his elastic character which was able to face any sudden event or situation and his ability to turn weak to power and play each role at the perfect time of attack or even retreat.
After all the above-mentioned notes about the leader of this expedition, now it is time to have a look at the expedition itself.
The government of France at this time, however, wanted strongly to keep Napleopon away from the authority, some members of the government were so worried about sending this number of soldiers abroad and meanwhile, they had lots of danger from Italy and Austria to France, but in fact, the soldiers of this expedition were about 10 % of the french army in this time, and meanwhile, they succeeded highly to keep the secret of this expedition even the leaders of this expedition had no idea about its direction till napoleon informed them about it at the proper time.
The number of the soldiers of this expedition was near 32000 soldiers, they sailed to Egypt by 400 ships, 13 frigates, and 14 battleships and they had just 680 horses since it was not easy logistically to bring more horses.
All of the above-mentioned were highly prepared in France and all these soldiers so it was news about this great expedition, and for sure England had its spies in France and they didn’t know the direction of the expedition.
The expedition was launched from Marsilia and Tolun and south of Italy under the leadership of Napoleon Bonaparte.
The mediterranean sea had at the same time another expedition under the leadership of the great British leader Nelson, who was very professional not less than Napoleon in fleet battle but less than him in luck!
Most of the leaders in England, when they got news about this expedition, thought that Napoleon will try to attack England itself, but by experience Nelson he was sure that it doesn’t be true and for sure Napoleon will launch somewhere to the east and the most hypothetical destination is Egypt, so he sailed keeping eyes on him to destroy his strategy and fail this expedition.
After sailing from France they directed to get control and obtain over Malta, which was a small island in the sea between Egypt and France, Napoleon and his expedition settled there without any resistance from its inhabitants.
The main reason to get this island was to keep the way between France and Egypt logistically and guard this important connection, and to avoid isolation from France after arrival to Egypt.
On 19 June 1798, Napoleon sailed with an expedition to Egypt while Nelson was not far away from him in Cecilia, and lots of scholars assured that on 20 June, both fleets were so close to each other in the mediterranean sea, and was possible to get in battle but it seems that the destiny had other opinion and there was a kind of power writing the scenario of this expedition.
So now in the mediterranean sea, there are two component campaigns, one of which aims to reach Egypt as soon as possible, and the other wants to destroy whatever destination of it.
The following events are very exciting, so continue reading the following article to enjoy the road map of this expedition.
